The Latin amor vincit omnia, meaning love conquers all, is a motto known to all students of English Literature as the one engraved on the brooch worn by the prioress in Chaucer’s 14th Century Canterbury Tales. The full quote from the Roman poet Virgil’s Eclogues is omnia vincit amor et nos cedamus amori which translates to love conquers all; let us, too, yield to love. The original ring, from which this is licensed, is now in the collection of the Department of Medieval and Modern Europe, British Museum, London.
