Guinevere gemstone size

Relative Guinevere Diamond

& Gemstone Sizes

You can read why we recommend different sizes of diamonds, depending upon what you are looking for.

Colored Gemstone Measurements
Colored gemstones are measured in millimeter sizes, and the carat weight is incidental. Two 4mm stones can have different carat weights, depending on the depth of the stone. These two stones will look visually the same, though, because the eye only sees the length and the width..

So when you order a colored gemstone, we

usually will give you the millimeter dimensions, but the stone may be 0.42CT or it could be 0.58CT. The weight will depend on how deep the stone is. If you really want a certain carat weight, let Mandira know, and she will find you the stone closest to that weight.

Diamond Measurements

Diamonds are always measured in carat weight, and the millimeter size is incidental. Two diamonds of the same carat weight can look visually different, because they have different millimeter sizes. When you order a diamond, you specify the carat range that you want, and we will get you a diamond in this range.

Trivia: Anniversary rings with diamonds all around are frequently referred to as “eternity” bands, but in fact, an eternity band is any ring that has a uniform width all the way around: in other words, what we think of as a traditional wedding ring.

Carat weights of a specific colored gemstone of a given millimeter size can vary over time. By that we mean that this 4.5mm pink sapphire was cut to 0.50CT weight, but another time, we may find that a 4.5mm sapphire will be 0.45CT or 0.48CT. In any case, the visual look will be identical since the millimeter size is the same.
