especially unique, as this is an exacting reproduction of a ring now in the British Museum. During the
Renaissance, silver poesy rings such as this one were given as tokens of friendship, regard and
esteem; as promises; and engagement rings. Upon betrothal, a silver poesy ring was given, to be
replaced by the same ring in gold upon marriage. Today, poesy rings serve the same purposes and
